Manufacturing shop floor productivity will take a much-needed step forward at the Manufacturing Technology Show IMTS2010 being held September 13-18, 2010. IMTS (International Manufacturing Technology Show, Booth E-3868) is the largest and longest running manufacturing technology trade show in the United States is held every other year at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill. IMTS is ranked among the largest trade shows in the world. Recognized as one of the world’s preeminent stages for introducing and selling manufacturing equipment and technology, IMTS attracts more than 92,000 visitors from every level of industry and more than 116 countries.
IMTS is owned and managed by AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. Founded in 1902 as the National Machine Tool Builders’ Association, AMT supports and promotes the U.S. manufacturing technology industry. The association provides U.S. builders of manufacturing systems with the latest information on technical developments, trade and marketing opportunities, and economic issues. It also gathers and disseminates information about world markets, promotes its members’ products in those markets, and acts as a representative on manufacturing technology matters to governments and trade organizations throughout the world.
Memex Automation will unveil a universal file server that improves CNC machine tool International productivity, thereby allowing machines to operate more efficiently which will help companies increase profitability. In today’s manufacturing world with individual machines being the islands of automation, they very often do not have ready and quick access to the manufacturing programs needed to run the machines. This is very often caused because of lack of network connections of the machines to the powerful CAD/CAM servers that store the programs and the latency in downloading very large programs even if there is a connection. In many cases operators are running around the shop floor trying to get the correct programs where the machine is waiting, not being utilized, often many hours per day.
Memex’s new Universal File Server, Ax2200HS-FS provides for large file storage directly at the machine as well as an Ethernet to serial Bridge to connect directly to the machine. This is much more robust and shop hardened than a PC located at the machine, and is easily one quarter of the cost. By assisting manufacturers to be more productive on a day by day operating basis, Memex is assisting the North American manufacturing sector to be more competitive on a global basis.
