Memex Adopts New XML Connectivity Standard MTConnect
/in ArticlesThe next evolution in manufacturing connectivity was unveiled by Memex Automation Inc. and MatrikonOPC™, the world’s largest OPC connectivity provider, at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) held this week in Chicago. Utilizing MatrikonOPC’s standards-based connectivity, Memex is now able to connect virtually all CNC machine tools leveraging our Dynamic Computer Aided Machining (DCAM) model. Our goal is to provide a universal machine interface that makes every machine a node on the corporate network.
Production Managers can now monitor the status of every machine in their plant, giving real time visibility of production. The benefits of machine monitoring and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) numbers lead directly to increased productivity. Our customers have seen up to 20% increase in shop floor efficiency, delivering more value than the cost of a new machine. Large multi-national manufacturers and leading aerospace companies have started adopting this technology. It’s like a low cost retrofit – we now can start Automating the Automation.
See Us at The Canadian Machine Tool Show
/in EventsFrom October 15-18, 2007 Memex will be exhibiting at the Canadian Machine Tool Show in Toronto Ontario. We will be in booth 1844 in the Factory Automation pavilion and look forward to showing our latest technology and meeting everyone again. The show is at the Design Centre (Exhibition Grounds by the main gate) and it runs 10-5, 10-6, 10-6 & 10-4 next week. We intend to show our CNC memory upgrades, DNC software, wireless options & Mx1150 DCAM technologies.
First Mx1150 Rev 2 Ships to New Mexico
/in Recent NewsWe are excited to announce our first shipment of Mx1150 Local DNC Controller boards to New Mexico. These units will enable Seimens 840 CNCs to load and punch special archive files that have main MPF and all necessary SPF subprograms inside one file. The loading could be done by any DNC system, but the punch function requires a special “Join” feature that is unique. The Mx1150 can be made to accomplish these in-line (or buffered) code conversions easily. Embedded DNC has now been enabled with machine monitoring, on-board local memory and adaptive control. The future is finally here!
In The News: A New Communication Medium
/in BlogAs one of the first in our sector to have a web site (August 1994), Memex has always been trying to leverage new technology to the fullest. This overhauled website for instance is made in an open source Content Management System called Joomla and is carefully tended to by the Memex team. For most of the life of Memex we have cared for the website and tried to convey the excitement of our long journey lead by a vision of the future.
Memex intends to revolutionize shop floor connectivity and truly “Automate the Automation”.
Back in the 90’s we had a part of our web site called “In The News” and there I reported on the weekly (and sometimes daily) advances we had made towards success. It was fun and allowed dealers and customers a glance into the passion and dedication the staff had towards the realization of our vision. I am hoping that this blog will serve such a purpose. We are “up to something” and the journey is more important than the destination I suspect.
A Note on the Passing of John T. Parsons
/in BlogOn April 19, 2007 the manufacturing world lost a great man, John T. Parsons of Traverse City, Michigan.
Mr. Parsons filed over 20 patents in his lifetime but is best remembered for the 1948 Numerical Control patent that founded the multi-billion CNC machine tool industry. In 1998 the Society of Manufacturing Engineers honored him after 50 years of contribution.
At the 1998 IMTS show, hosted by MDSI of Ann Arbor Michigan, we were introduced. Mr. Parsons agreed to join the Memex Board of Advisors and helped with the strategic direction and support of our vision of the future. We mourn the passing of a great man who has a carved his name in the history of manufacturing and honour the inspiration he was to many, including our company.
